Delta unveils Mod-tech Edge laser converting machine

At Labelexpo Americas 2008, Delta will be featuring its Delta Mod-Tech EDGE Laser Converting system with digital UV printing capability, using a new Digital Print Module with Xaar 1001 inkjet printheads. The system gives converters a flexible manufacturing solution for complex geometries, precision products and quick-changeover, coupled with high-quality flexo, screen or digital printing – all on the same machine. The module’s flexibility is due in part to its servo-controlled robotic arm for laser module repositioning. To complement this flexibility, the machine has been fitted with Delta’s new Digital Print Module. This new module features an array of Xaar 1001 inkjet printheads to provide CMYK and spot colour digital printing with UV inks, the capability for instantaneous print image changeover, and the modularity found on all the Delta Mod-Tech modules.

First Pharma DDS agreements signed

Stora Enso has signed the first Pharma DDS license agreements in the US and in Europe. Pharma DDS is a new child-resistant packaging solution designed to be convenient and discreet to use. Sharp Corporation and Stora Enso will partner in the contract packaging of pharmaceutical products into Pharma DDS cartons. Simultaneously an agreement has been reached with Cadmus Whitehall Group and with rlc packaging group to produce printed and converted components of Pharma DDS carton. “These three agreements only eight months after the launch of Pharma DDS in the market demonstrate the great interest in the product. We are especially excited about the cooperation with Sharp Corporation and the possibility to produce Pharma DDS on their new high speed MGS Stealth cartoner,” says Ismo Saarinen, Director, Stora Enso Pharmaceutical Solutions. The Pharma DDS carton is designed to be convenient and discreet to use, yet it has reached the highest F=1 child-resistance testing result. Sharp Corporation is a world class provider of healthcare contract packaging, design and engineering, serving the prescription, over-the-counter, nutritional, animal health, and personal care markets. The company has recently finalized the installation of the new MGS Stealth cartoner at its facilities in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
